How to earn $150K a year in electrical engineering salaries
The electrician profession is one of the fastest growing in the U.S., with salaries for those who work in the field soaring to $150,000 annually.
But even after those salaries increase, many employers are still looking for people with skills that are also required in other occupations, like software engineers.
Here are 10 ways to become an electrician with a career in electrical engineer.
Take a degree in electrical or computer engineering.
Some states have strict rules on which colleges and universities can accept electrical engineering students, but the University of California, Berkeley, has a degree that can be used for other electrical work.
For example, electrical engineers must have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
To apply for an electrical engineering degree, you’ll need to complete a two-year college course that includes three hours of classroom instruction, an online curriculum that is taught through a third-party provider, and three tests.
Applicants who complete the course will receive a score from a nationally recognized exam provider.
Take online courses.
There are a variety of online courses available for the electrical engineer, including the following: Coursera: A free online course offered by the Udacity Foundation.
You can also apply online to take courses at a range of other online learning platforms, including Courserab and Courserio.
Udacity: This website offers courses at varying levels of difficulty and is a great resource for new and seasoned electricians.
Learn about building a career.
This is a major step for any electrical engineer because it involves applying to jobs that will be offered, but it’s especially important if you want to have the best career you can.
Start with a job search and apply to various positions before you move into your field.
Be involved in local and national campaigns.
Many states and localities are looking for the next generation of electricians because they need people with an interest in building new electrical infrastructure and connecting it to the public.
Local campaigns are the best way to promote your career, says Mark Schulz, director of the Center for Energy in Government at Rutgers University.
He adds that if you can apply for jobs, it can help you land a position.
Apply to apprenticeships.
If you want a career, you have to apply to a apprenticeship program.
Some apprenticeships offer an apprenticeship to complete one-on-one projects, and other programs offer apprenticeships to complete two- or three-on, five- or six-on projects.
Check out the website of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers for more information.
Learn from your fellow electricians through the apprenticeship programs offered by universities and employers.
The U.K. Engineering and Physical Education Association is one organization that offers a list of programs for electricians to apply for.

Become a certified electrician.
You’ll need a bachelor of science degree in a related discipline to work as an electricians and a license to operate a motor vehicle.
The American Institute for Electrical Engineers (AEE) offers certifications to help you pass the exams required to be an electric engineer.
Become an apprentice.
This could be the path that you choose if you are a graduate of a school that is recognized in your profession, says Schulz.
If your school has an apprenticeships program, you may be eligible to take one of those courses online.

Take classes at a local college.
Some universities offer a program for students to complete courses in a classroom setting.
You may be able to take these courses in the fall and winter, or you can choose to take the online courses offered by colleges that are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Engineering Education (ACEE).
The ACEE has a list that lists accredited colleges.
The more you know about the courses offered, the more likely you’ll be able a pass the examinations.
Take courses at an accredited college.
While there are hundreds of colleges that offer electrical engineering courses, you might want to consider taking the most common ones.
These include colleges like Ohio State University, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, and the University at Buffalo.
