DuckduckGo’s search engine is getting ready for the future
The search engine DuckdukeGo is getting a fresh start as the startup is gearing up for a massive overhaul that could alter its direction.
According to the New York Times, the company is hoping to re-enter the internet’s marketplace, the so-called deep web, by 2018.
The move would allow the company to scale back its search engine to focus more on the core business of selling advertisements, and in doing so, give it more leverage in the market for the deep web.
The Times reported that DuckduckingGo is already working on the new model.
The news comes just months after a massive $600 million takeover bid by Amazon, and as the company looks to move into the deep-web market.
The company has been building out its search tool for the past two years, and according to the Times, it is currently targeting a 2019 launch.
However, the plan may not happen before 2019, as the firm is looking to focus on other business areas.
Duckduck Go has been focused on the deep net since it was founded in 2014.
The startup has had a tough start to its search business, and has struggled to keep up with the rise of competitors like Alexa, Bing, and Google.
The firm has also had a hard time keeping up with its competitors, and its search traffic has been falling, according to Forbes.
Its stock price has plummeted, and the company has struggled with rising competition.
